Several new laws took effect in Nevada, July 1. The most nepharious is the minimum wage law, bumping hourly wage earners up 70-cents an hour. For small sandwich shop like my wife’s, that an added $5.60 per person per 8-hour shift. While it doesn’t sound like a lot, it’s a helluva chunk of change to HAVE to pay out in a recession.
When I started working in the early 70’s, the federal minimum wage was a buck-sixty. That was equal to $5.65 in todays economy. Since then the minumum wage standard has increased to an astonomical porportion, yet the real value of the wage has dropped.
Using available numbers, that would be 2007, the minimum wage standard for the U.S. was increased to $5.85 an hour. That would be $4.14 in actual dollars by todays standards.
This is where this entire minimum wage stuff becomes evil. Workers cry foul, that they are unable to make ends meet on minimum wage while the value of the dollar has shrunk continuously over the same time period.
Who controls the dollar? The federal government.
Basically, our federal government has found a way since 1955 to create slaves of the average citizen. This is a form of soft-tyranny and is one of many such programs developed and cultivated over the years to gradually draw power from the people and rest it in the hands of a ruling class.
Slowly they are forcing you and I to work longer, harder hours to make more and get less. Eventually, we will end up sucking from the great teat of federal welfare, rather than do for ourselves what our Grandparents and Great-Grandparents did for themselves, and all without a federal wage law.
Something must be done about this situation. Should this continue, there will no long be an ability of the average citizen to pull himself or herself up by the boot straps and rise above their current situation.
